We are excited to introduce a unique educational experience that is rooted in nature for children ages 3.5-6. Our Forest Kindergarten program is designed to nurture creativity, curiosity, and resilience by engaging young learners in hands-on outdoor experiences. In the heart of the forest, children explore, discover, and connect with their surroundings while building essential skills for life and learning.
Outdoor learning and nature play are at the core of our approach, offering countless benefits for cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. Through free play and structured activities, children enhance problem-solving skills, boost their self-confidence, and develop a deep appreciation for the environment. The dynamic outdoor setting allows for experiential learning that goes far beyond the traditional classroom.
Our program is carefully aligned with the Ontario Curriculum, ensuring that each child's academic and developmental needs are met. Whether investigating ecosystems, practicing teamwork, or engaging in the creative arts, your child's unique abilities and interests will be nurtured amongst a beautiful setting of 100 acres of forest, rolling hills, and streams.
We invite you to explore how our Forest Kindergarten Program can provide your child with an enriching and transformative educational journey.

Oro Medonte Forest School is a trusted and nurturing environment for outdoor learning. Established in 2016, our mission is to create an educational community that fosters rich, experiential learning, age appropriate ecological literacy, and promotes healthy living by connecting children to nature in the foundational early years.
Our Kindergarten Program is led by an Ontario Certified Teacher and is designed for children ages 3.5-6. We offer a low 5:1 child to teacher ratio which allows for individualized attention and a child-led learning approach. We are committed to being an inclusive environment, one where every child is embraced and celebrated for exactly who they are.

At OMFS, we believe outdoor learning is foundational to student growth and engagement.
Our time in nature is supported by meaningful work in math, science, literacy, and the arts, along with experiences in music, yoga, and gardening.
Inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf, and project-based learning, our program is child-led and rooted in connection and curiosity.
We spend the majority of our day learning outside, with opportunities throughout the day to come indoors for play, rest, and learning in a cozy indoor space that is filled with natural light.
We foster a daily rhythm that provides children with a sense of predictability, connectedness, and belonging to place. Daily morning songs, circle time, and closing circle are an important part of this.
We also invite families to become a part of their child's learning journey and connect with our educational community by taking part in seasonal events outside of school hours.

OMFS operates in all seasons and most weather conditions. Rain, snow, and cold are part of our daily learning experience and offer meaningful opportunities for children to build resilience, confidence, and connection with the natural world. With proper clothing, thoughtful planning, and experienced educators, children thrive outdoors year-round.
In cases of extreme or unsafe conditions, such as severe weather warnings or dangerous road conditions, the school may close. Families will be notified by text message by 7:00 AM on the day of closure. Our priority is always the safety of our students, families, and staff.
As an outdoor program, occasional weather-related closures are part of the school year.
Tuition reflects the full seasonal experience, including program planning, staffing, and the overall educational journey across the term, and is not adjusted for individual closure days.
We are committed to clear communication and careful decision-making so families can plan with confidence.

At OMFS, we believe that risk is an essential part of childhood development, and our Forest Kindergarten program embraces risky play as a powerful learning tool. Risky play refers to activities that involve challenge, uncertainty, and potential for physical risk, yet are balanced with opportunities for growth, exploration, and self-regulation.
In the forest, children engage in age-appropriate activities like climbing trees, balancing on logs, making fires, navigating uneven terrain, and experimenting with natural elements. These experiences, while sometimes perceived as risky, help children develop critical skills such as resilience, confidence, problem-solving, and decision-making. When children are encouraged to assess their own safety, take calculated risks, and learn from their experiences, they become more self-aware and capable of managing future challenges.
Risky play fosters independence and a sense of accomplishment, as children overcome fears and push boundaries in a supportive, supervised environment. It also encourages collaboration, as children often work together to problem-solve or navigate challenges in the natural world.
Through risky play, our Forest Kindergarten program not only nurtures physical and emotional development but also promotes a deeper connection to nature, allowing children to build a sense of agency and confidence.
We are committed to providing a safe space where children can experience the joys and lessons of taking risks, while ensuring they develop the skills to handle both successes and setbacks.
We recognize the importance of fostering strong communication between families and our educators. We believe that open, transparent dialogue helps build trust and ensures that families are well-informed about their child's progress and experiences at Forest Kindergarten.
We prioritize regular in-person conversations between families and educators. Whether it’s during drop-off or pick-up times, our educators are always available to discuss your child’s development, share insights about their experiences, or address any questions you may have. These informal chats are a great way for parents and teachers to stay connected and build a collaborative relationship.
We share weekly updates with families through the Seesaw app, including photos and highlights from our time in the forest. These snapshots offer a window into your child’s experiences, learning, and friendships, helping you stay connected to their growth and adventures throughout the week.
