The OMFS Forest Trekkers Program offers children the remarkable opportunity to participate in a play-based, emergent forest school program, fostering a deep connection to the Land. At OMFS we believe in the power of exploration and hands-on learning in the natural environment, where children can gain their greatest lessons from the forest itself.
Our program nurtures a love for the environment, fosters curiosity, and promotes holistic development. We place a strong emphasis on place-based, seasonal exploration. Guided by knowledgeable educators, children learn to appreciate and care for the environment, becoming responsible citizens of the earth. Children are given the freedom to learn and grow through their experiences in the natural world. As they discover the wonders of their surroundings, our experienced educators provide them with all the tools and materials they need to support their learning, growth, and building.
At OMFS, we understand the important of combining Indigenous wisdom with environmental stewardship. Through literature, activities and discussions, children develop a strong connection to the history of the Land, and a gain sense of responsibility towards its well-being. We share that our greatest teachers are those who have inhabited this Land for thousands of years and we believe in listening to the wisdom of Indigenous teachers while honouring and respecting culture. We believe that fostering a love of the Land and understanding the rich interconnectedness of all living beings lays the foundation for a lifetime of intersectional environmental consciousness.
The Forest Trekkers program encourages collaborative projects and cooperative games, nurturing teamwork and effective communication skills. As children immerse themselves in the forest, they also develop essential skills in literacy, numeracy, and science, deepening their understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things.
Our full-day Forest Trekkers program is specifically designed for children aged 5-12 years old. With a full day spent outdoors, children have the opportunity to embrace nature’s classroom. This program is an excellent complement to a child’s academic journey. By attending our forest school program, children develop social interaction skills, problem-solving abilities, and engage in rich experiential education opportunities while gaining a deep appreciation for the Land and all of it’s inhabitants.
Let your child embark on a transformative educational journey rooted in nature in the Forest Trekkers program.
