Summer Camp registration for 2020 opens on January 31, 2020.
This summer break, OMFS will once again be offering the popular Forest Camp program!
Forest camp gives children the opportunity to enjoy summer adventures in the forest, make new friends, challenge themselves and explore the great outdoors.
Children will spend the day exploring, creating, building and using their imaginations to the fullest. The summer camp leaders will provide opportunities for outdoor skill development, cooperative games and lots of movement. Camp leaders will follow the children’s lead, while providing a safe, valuable program which nurtures a child’s desire to be in the outdoors.
OMFS Forest camp leaders will be many of the same skilled educators that facilitate programming throughout the year. All educators have experience working in the outdoors, with children and one or more trained Forest School Practitioners will be part of the staff team each week.
Forest Camp programming may include the following elements: campfire cuisine, fire building, streams and wetland studies, treasure maps and direction, shelter building, wild edibles, nature based crafts, plant identification and so much more. Children will have an opportunity to work towards specific outdoor skill development, always a favourite amongst campers. As always the children lead the way with their interests and ideas; with play as a core component of the Forest Camp program.
Every Thursday (weather dependent) is our cookout day! The children will work together to create a meal over the fire (or camp stove if a fire ban is in place), a great way to put their newly learned skills to use!
The program is available for children ages 4-12.
